Help Your Planet - About Me

A little history of Jo Ann...

It was one of those pivotal moments:  I was visiting the Columbia Icefields in Alberta with my family one cloudy day in August in 1997.  While embarking on the winding trail up to the edge of the glacier, I was stunned by the markers indicating how far the glacier had melted since the early 20th century.  The year markers at the beginning of the trail were quite close together, indicating a slow ice melt, but the gap widened drastically as 20th century progressed, meaning that the glacier began melting much faster than previously.  This was astounding to me--to see for myself how our increasing industrialization over the recent decades has eaten away at the ice giants.

So, this meant a gradual but steady change in my life and outlook.  What can I do, being only one individual, to slow this global warming trend, to save our crucial icefields, to help my planet?

Why Help Your Planet bags?

I have seen it for myself:  There is no doubt our climate is changing and having a drastic impact on our environment.

The polluting waste and by-products of disposable plastic shopping bags made from petroleum have a negative impact on our environment.  The bags themselves can take 1000 years to degrade in landfills and are easily blown across landscapes and into bodies of water where they pose threats to marine life (click here for more details).

One way I can contribute to a solution is to provide an eco-friendly and affordable alternative to plastic produce bags for the average Canadian consumer.  With an average of 3 trips to the grocery store per week, each one of us could avoid using as many as 40 plastic bags per month!
